Founders' TableFoundersFounders & CEOs

A company grows when its people grow. Invest in your team, and the results follow.

A founder may carry the vision, but the right people are what give that vision the ability to grow.

Portrait of Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan, Co-Founder & CEO of Nestwood Realty, more than a decade in real estate has reinforced a simple belief: a company can only grow as far as its people are willing to grow.

There is a point in almost every founder’s journey when ambition alone is no longer enough.

The business gets bigger. Expectations rise. More people begin depending on your decisions. And eventually, the challenge is no longer simply about how hard you can work.

It becomes about the people you build around you.

For Sarfaraz Khan, Co-Founder & CEO of Nestwood Realty, that realization became one of the defining lessons of his 10+ year journey in real estate.

His story is not simply about building a company. It is about learning what it really means to lead one.

When Leadership Becomes a Responsibility

Sarfaraz’s motivation begins somewhere more personal than business.

His family. His dreams. And the responsibility that comes with knowing that other people now look to him for direction.

“Knowing my team looks up to me pushes me to show up fully, every single day.”

There is an important distinction in those words.

Leadership, for Sarfaraz, is not simply a designation written next to his name. It creates an obligation to show up, especially when others are depending on you.

The higher you grow, the greater your responsibility to the people growing with you.

That responsibility has become part of what keeps him moving forward every day.

The Hardest Part Was Finding The Right People

When asked about one of the challenges that shaped his journey, Sarfaraz does not point to a difficult transaction or a challenging market.

He points to his team.

Building the right one took time.

It required patience, judgement and the willingness to wait for people who genuinely belonged in the journey.

For a founder, that can be a difficult transition. In the beginning, it is tempting to carry everything yourself. You know how you want things done, you understand the vision, and doing it yourself can often feel faster.

But businesses cannot scale around one person.

Sarfaraz had to learn that the people surrounding a founder eventually become one of the biggest determinants of where the company can go.

Finding the right team was difficult.

But once he did, it shaped everything that came after.

A Company Grows When Its People Grow

More than a decade in the industry has left Sarfaraz with a leadership philosophy that is remarkably straightforward:

“A company grows when its people grow. Invest in your team, and the results follow.”

It changes the definition of growth.

Growth is not only another transaction, another target or another milestone.

Sometimes growth is watching someone on your team become more confident.

Sometimes it is giving someone responsibility before they completely believe they are ready for it.

Sometimes it is creating an environment where people can make mistakes, receive feedback, learn and return stronger.

Build better people, and you build a stronger company.

For Sarfaraz, investing in people is not separate from the business strategy.

It is part of the business strategy.

Success Without Humility Means Less

There is another quality Sarfaraz pays close attention to: humility.

Asked who inspires him, he does not name a celebrity entrepreneur or a famous business figure.

Instead, he points to a type of person.

Someone who becomes successful without allowing success to change who they are.

“People who stay humble despite their success. Real strength is working hard without losing your grounding.”

Dubai real estate is an industry where success can become highly visible.

Titles change. Numbers grow. Recognition arrives.

But Sarfaraz believes how someone carries that success matters just as much as achieving it.

Grow, but stay grounded.

It is a principle that connects naturally with the way he thinks about leadership itself: the further you progress, the more important the people around you become.

Learn To Hear What You Don’t Want To Hear

For newcomers entering real estate, Sarfaraz’s advice is not about selling harder or chasing faster results.

It is about feedback.

“Be open to feedback. It’s the fastest way to learn and grow in this industry.”

It sounds simple.

In practice, it requires humility.

Feedback can expose weaknesses. It can challenge the way someone works. And sometimes it forces people to acknowledge that what they have been doing simply is not working.

But those willing to listen can improve much faster than those determined to defend every decision.

Especially in real estate, where markets, clients and competition continue to evolve, the ability to learn may ultimately matter more than the ability to appear as though you already know everything.

Let The Results Speak

After more than 10 years in the industry, Sarfaraz’s mindset can be reduced to four ideas:

Work hard.
Stay focused.
Keep your honesty.
Let the results speak.

There is no complicated formula behind it.

And perhaps that is precisely the point.

Businesses are rarely built through one extraordinary day.

They are built through ordinary days repeated with discipline: showing up when motivation is low, making difficult decisions, choosing the right people, listening when someone tells you where you can improve, and staying grounded when things begin going well.

Sarfaraz Khan’s journey is still being written.

But one lesson already sits at the centre of it:

A founder may carry the vision, but the right people are what give that vision the ability to grow.

And sometimes, building the company you imagined begins with building the people who will eventually carry it beside you.
